Rocket City Moonshot Youth Water Polo Tournament Makes a Splash in Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, AL — The Rocket City Moonshot Youth Water Polo Tournament returns June 7–8, 2025, bringing together youth teams from across the country for a weekend of fast-paced competition and community spirit.

Hosted at the Huntsville Aquatics Center (2213 Drake Ave SW), the tournament features 18 & Under Boys and Girls divisions and is proudly presented by the Huntsville Water Polo Association, in collaboration with the Huntsville Sports Commission and the City of Huntsville Parks & Recreation Department.

Tournament Schedule:

Saturday, June 7th: 8:00 AM – 7:30 PM
Sunday, June 8th: 8:00 AM – 1:00 PM

The tournament will welcome teams from across the region and beyond, including:

Bluff City Water Polo (Memphis, TN)
Kraken Water Polo (Marietta, GA)
Nashville Channel Cats
Chicago Athletic & Polo Club
Southwest Ohio Sea Monsters (Cincinnati, OH)
Marble City Water Polo (Knoxville, TN)

Spectators are encouraged to attend—no admission fees are required. This event offers a great opportunity for the community to witness one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S. and support youth athletes in a high-energy, family-friendly environment.

Teams

The Chicago Aquatic and Polo Club (CAPC) is a distinguished water polo organization rooted in Chicago’s South Side, with a rich history dating back to 1964. Founded by Jim “Moose” Mulcrone, the club has been instrumental in promoting and developing water polo in the region. In 2017, his son, Frank Mulcrone, along with Mike Gruszeczki, both inductees of the Illinois Water Polo Hall of Fame, revitalized the club to continue its legacy. ​

CAPC offers a range of programs tailored to various age groups and skill levels, including:​

  • 10U: Introducing young athletes to the fundamentals of water polo.​
  • 12U & 14U: Focusing on skill development and competitive play.​
  • Girls High School: Providing advanced training and competition opportunities for high school athletes.​

The club’s mission is to cultivate a love for water polo, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. All coaches are dedicated volunteers, each bringing over a decade of experience to mentor and guide the athletes.

Kraken Water Polo is a premier youth water polo club based in Marietta, Georgia, dedicated to promoting the sport among young athletes. They offer programs ranging from introductory levels to national competition, serving areas in Cobb and Cherokee counties.  As a member of the Georgia High School Water Polo Association, Kraken Water Polo emphasizes both fun and fitness, providing opportunities for skill development and competitive play.  The club actively engages with the community through platforms like Facebook and Instagram, sharing updates, events, and achievements.

The Southwest Ohio Sea Monsters Water Polo Club is a dedicated organization focused on promoting and developing water polo in the Southwest Ohio region. They offer programs for various age groups and skill levels, aiming to foster a love for the sport while emphasizing teamwork, skill development, and sportsmanship.​

Riptide Water Polo, based in Montgomery, Alabama, is a dynamic club dedicated to introducing and promoting the sport of water polo in the region. Established through initiatives like the Montgomery YMCA’s Splashball program, Riptide offers opportunities for youth to engage in water polo, emphasizing skill development, teamwork, and community involvement. The club actively participates in regional competitions, fostering a competitive yet supportive environment for athletes. ​
